WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS

May 11th,  2008

Please make your giving of your tithes and offerings an act of worship.  (Offering plates are located in front, please bring your offering up front at any time during our worship service.)

Visitors please take time and fill out a Visitor/Prayer request card in your Welcome Home Packet found at the entrance of the Sanctuary.

PLEASE remember that the white envelopes are for our special fund raiser.  Use the gold envelopes for your regular giving (tithe)

We will hand flyers for our CCOM Saturday, 17th at 4:00pm.  Come and join us!
Garage Sale Fundraiser has been set for Saturday June 7th from 7:00am - 1:00pm.   More information to follow for the times and dates for help to set up the items.  PLEASE, PLEASE continue to bring your stuff in!

Please remember we will not have Bible Study this evening, spend some quality family time!

We will participate in the ABA (Abilene Baptist Association) Food Pantry.  Immanuel*s goal this quarter (end of June) is 100lbs. of RICE.  Please start bringing your donations as soon as possible so we can hit our goal.  The Food Pantry Drop Box is in the foyer.  Remember each quarter we will be given a different item to donate.  This will be our city mission offering in addition to our monthly contribution to the Association.  The food will benefit those in need here in Abilene

At the front of the sanctuary you will see a cross with notes stapled to it, you will also find pens and paper on the front pew for everyone that needs to take their commitment, their needs, and/or their prayer request before God this year.  At anytime during the service you may come up and write it down on a piece of paper and staple it to the cross.  All year we will have the cross in the sanctuary to remind us of what we have placed before God and for all of us to pray over these requests.  This isn't a onetime thing, you can add to the cross as you need!

HELP!  We STILL need HELP in the afternoons.  The evening Bible studies have been a great blessing averaging about 50 in attendance.  We need help with the children before and after class, we need help driving the van.  PLEASE, PLEASE we need your help with our evening ministry.  See Pastor Eddie or Susy (Sunday School Director)

Sunday School Teachers will meet with the S.S Director at 5:30pm in the front office.  The purpose for the meeting is to update everyone on any new news and share concerns between classes.  See you there!

Church members, it is extremely important to know the direction, vision, and condition of your church, the best line of defense is a great offense.  That is why everyone is always invited to attend the Council/Business Meetings held once a month every second Saturday at 5:00pm.  Please make plans to attend an extremely important part of communication within our church next month.   All staff and Sunday School Teachers are required to attend.

FYI:
In a.d. 324, Emperor Constantine, believing the future lay in the East rather than the West, decided to move his capital from Rome to Byzantium. Before long there was a fabulous hippodrome, a prized university, five imperial palaces, nine palaces for dignitaries, 4,388 mansions, 322 streets, 1,000 shops, 100 places of amusement, splendid baths, magnificent churches, and a swelling population. It was a city that shimmered in the sunshine. The New Rome*Constantinople*was dedicated as capital of the Eastern Empire on May 11, 330. It became the center for Eastern Christianity. l On May 11, 1682, the General Court of Massachusetts repealed two Puritanical laws, one forbade the observance of Christmas, and the second demanded capital punishment for Quakers. l On May 11, 1816, delegates from a number of Christian organizations met in New York City to form the American Bible Society. Today the ABS has Scriptures available in over a thousand languages and annually distributes hundreds of millions of low-cost Bibles. l The American Tract Society, the first national tract league in America, was formed in New York City on May 11, 1825. l The first CARE packages arrived in Europe, at Le Havre, France, on this day in 1946.
